Be sure to dress professionally and appropriately for the industry you’re in. It’s always preferable to be overdressed than underdressed. Early is “on time”: Arrive at least 10-15 minutes early to your interview. This shows that you’re reliable and respectful of the interviewer’s time. However, if you arrive more than 15 minutes early, you run the risk of interrupting the flow of the work day and other interviews or meetings that may be scheduled. Do your research: Research the organization and the role you’re interviewing for ahead of time. This shows that you’re invested, interested and prepared. Having advanced knowledge about the organization and the job role indicates that you are serious about the opportunity, and respect the work of the individuals you are interviewing with. Be prepared to ask meaningful, relevant questions. Mind your manners: Remember to be respectful and professional throughout the interview process. Use proper etiquette, such as a firm handshake and maintaining eye contact. It is advisable to refrain from speaking negatively about current or former employers or co-workers. Follow up with a thank you note or email to the interviewer, to emphasize your appreciation and interest in the position. These basic guidelines will help set you up for a successful interview process.
