NSJ Featured Non-Profit-Our Neighbors’ Table

At North Shore Jobs, we believe people are at the heart of every strong community. Our work is about connecting people with great local opportunities and the organizations that hold this region together are a big part of that story.

That is why we are introducing the NSJ Featured Non-Profit Partner, a quarterly spotlight on the local nonprofits doing meaningful work across the North Shore. Each quarter, we shine a light on one local organization, championing their work and encouraging the community to get involved.

This program is entirely free. For a full quarter, the Featured Non-Profit Partner is showcased on our website and across our social media channels. NSJ will promote the highlighted organization’s job and volunteer opportunities at no cost, through a dedicated partner page and social media postings, so the people in our network can find more ways to get involved. We share our Non-Profit Partner’s story, point the community toward how they can support, and encourage people to show up for their events and efforts. It’s our way of using the North Shore Jobs audience to give back to the place we serve.

We could not think of a better organization to launch this program with than Our Neighbors’ Table.

Meet Our Neighbors’ Table:

Our Neighbors’ Table (ONT) has been providing nourishing food, compassion, and community to neighbors in northeastern Essex County since 1992. Their mission is to establish a community that provides for the whole person with nourishing food, kindness, and dignity.

ONT has reimagined what food assistance can look like. Their markets work like a welcoming grocery store, where guests shop for their own fresh food at no cost, with no income requirement and no income verification. Instead of rigid rules and limited selection, ONT offers flexible, guest-centered programs built around what people actually need: consistent, reliable access to fresh, healthy food, served with dignity.

Their reach across our region is significant. ONT’s markets are open to residents of Amesbury, Boxford, Byfield, Georgetown, Groveland, Merrimac, Newbury, Newburyport, Rowley, Salisbury, South Hampton (New Hampshire), and West Newbury. Many of these are the same towns the North Shore Jobs community calls home.

 

What ONT offers:

• Two free grocery markets, in Amesbury (194 Main Street, at the Jardis-Taylor Center) and Salisbury (114 Bridge Road), open on a regular weekly schedule.
• Integrated markets with Councils on Aging in Merrimac, Groveland, Salisbury and Georgetown, supplying their pantries with healthy food that is easily accessible.
• A free weekly Community Meal, served every Wednesday from 4 to 6 pm at Main Street Congregational Church (Vestry Hall) in Amesbury, with take-out available beginning at 3 pm. Everyone is welcome, with no income requirement and no pre-registration.
• Home delivery for neighbors who are home-bound, so food can reach those who cannot get to a market.
  SNAP application help. As a SNAP Outreach Partner, ONT’s staff can help Massachusetts residents apply for SNAP.
• The Seacoast Regional Food Hub in Salisbury, which ONT owns and operates to expand the infrastructure to capture more food and get it to frontline food providers across the Lower Merrimack Valley.

Last year, ONT served nearly 7,000 individuals through its grocery programs. Creating a food-secure region is a shared effort, and ONT depends on the generosity and time of local individuals and businesses to make it possible.

Supporting ONT is straightforward, and every bit of it stays right here in our community. A few ways to get involved:

What Is Coming Up

ONT’s weekly Community Meal continues every Wednesday from 4 to 6 pm at Main Street Congregational Church in Amesbury, a warm meal and good company open to all.
